We are just 10 weeks away from kicking off this year’s FIM Asia Supermoto Championship in Newcastle, Australia and things just keep getting exciting. Four internationally acclaimed riders will be participating in the opening round – Troy Bayliss, Chris Hodgson, Boris Chambon, and Joan Lopez!
1) Troy Bayliss
Requires no introduction to any motorcycle racing fan or enthusiast. By the age of 10, the Australian was already an accomplished motocross rider and has since moved on to acquire multiple accolades throughout his lifelong racing career – three-time World Superbike Champion, 1999 British Superbike Champion, and most recently the 2014 Australian Supermoto Champion. He’s even won a MotoGP race when he was offered a one-off entry by Ducati into the 2006 Valencia race to replace their then injured rider. Now in his late 40s, Bayliss still remains active on his Supermotard to keep himself sharp and will definitely be hunting for the top spot on the podium come September 3rd.
2) Boris Chambon
Hailing from France, the 41-year-old Chambon has been active in Supermoto racing since 1992. His achievements include being the 2005 World Class S2 Champion, five-time French Supermoto Champion, two-time winner of the Guidon d’Or Paris (Paris Supermoto Race), and 2003 Superbiker Mettet winner.
3) Chris Hodgson
Hodgson is no stranger to the world of Supermoto racing. In 2015, the Englishman had not only won his tenth British Supermoto Championship title, he was also crowned the 2015 Australian Supermoto Champion. The 28-year old rider is currently in the lead for this year’s British Supermoto Championship and will be looking to continue his ongoing momentum of success in our opening round.
4) Joan Lopez
Spanish rider Joan Lopez will also be looking to heat things up at the Newcastle track. The Suzuki rider has recently won the Spanish Supermoto Championship and will be making his way to the land down under this September to continue his winning ways.
