The opening round of the 2016 FIM Asia Supermoto Championship is set to take place this September 3rd and 4th in Newcastle, Australia. The harbour city’s Foreshore Park will be hosting the best riders from across Asia as they battle it out to gain a strong start to this year’s championship.
Situated in the Australian state of New South Wales, Newcastle is a beautiful city that’s known for its abundance of scenic beaches and is acknowledged as one of the top surfing destinations in the world. With the support of Tourism Hunter, a local corporate tourism organisation; Destination NSW, the state’s government agency for tourism and major events; and the City Council, it is with hope that Newcastle will be the next international destination for this sport.
Foreshore Park is one of the city’s landmark spots. As the name suggests, the park is situated on a foreshore nearby Nobby’s Beach and is shadowed by Fort Scratchley, a popular historical site. Its beautiful view overlooking the harbour coupled with its top-notch amenities and facilities make it the perfect venue for both participants and spectators to enjoy and be thrilled over the weekend. The park also played host to last year’s Australian Supermoto Championships which witnessed a roaring turnout of over 30,000 attendees. It was also the first ever Supermoto event to be held in the city. Come September 3rd and 4th, the 7.8-hectare park will be transformed into a dirt section for the race while its surrounding roads will be the tarmac section.
The event will be running in conjunction with the Newcastle City Supermoto Championship so spectators can expect to witness the best Australian riders racing alongside their Asian counterparts. A turnout of 50,000 to 60,000 people is expected over the two-day event. This will play a momentous event in the history of our championship and we hope you’ll be there to be a part of it!
