Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Announced as the Royal Patron of The Melaka Art & Performance Festival (MAPFest)
MELAKA, 3 NOVEMBER 2014 – Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has been announced as the Royal Patron of MAPFest, the largest and only site specific art and performance festival on a UNESCO World Heritage site with art installations and performances by more than 65 renowned local and international artists that will return for the sixth time from 21 to 23 November 2014 in Melaka.
Tengku Zatashah, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy from the American Graduate School of International Relations and Diplomacy, will be supporting the future development of art and performance festival taking it to greater heights.
She has had international corporate exposure in the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Malaysia with over 20 years of experience in crisis management, corporate communications strategy, media training, branding and marketing.
Currently, she is the President of Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur, a non-profit organisation, having served four years on the board, two years as Chairman and the Chairman and CEO of Light Cibles Malaysia, which is a part of an award-winning international lighting design consultancy firm.
Tengku Zatashah says, “I am delighted to be a part of the largest site specific arts and performance event on a UNESCO World Heritage site, which enriches lives and culture. I feel passionately about engaging people with the arts, and will do all that I can to support the vital role MAPFest plays in developing the industry.
Tengku Zatashah has diverse industry experience in the consumer goods, media, hospitality, education and construction, with a solid network of business contacts in Malaysia and France and has been key in driving forward a sustainable development policy and media training crisis management in a Fortune 500 global company. She speaks English, French, Spanish and Bahasa Malaysia fluently.
Recently in 2013, Tengku Zatashah graduated from the Malaysian government’s initiative, the Women Directors’ Programme to serve on the boards of public-listed companies, as well as Insead’s Finance for Executives programme 2014 in Singapore.

MAPFest is an innovative contemporary festival, featuring dance, performance art, visual art, film and music. In a short space of time since its inception in 2009, MAPFest has gained a high national, and increasingly international profile, being recognised for its programme of exciting independent artists, collaborations and its use of alternative sites for performance.
Artists from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, France, Ghana, South Korea, Ireland, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Morrocco, Canada, Poland and the USA will be performing in the streets along St. Paul’s Hill where the asphalt will become their canvas with magnificent images and performances.
The three day festival draws from Melaka’s famous heritage sites, and its collective ancestral heritage to create a space for contemporary culture and artistic practice
Art takes many forms and the Visual Arts segment is a curated program of exciting and contemporary works by Malaysian and International artists including installations, video art, photography and painting coupled with a film fest featuring short films. MAPFest promotes Melaka to the world as a creative hub for innovative arts, where arts can be integrated with heritage.
MAPFest is directed by Tony Yap in his capacity as the Festival Creative Director. He was one of the principle performers with IRAA Theatre (1989-1996) and has worked extensively in Australia and overseas including Agamemnon Festival Colline Torinese, Italy, and The Trojan Woman, Vienna International Art Festival. As the founding Artistic director of Mixed Company (now Tony Yap Company) in 1993, he has made a commitment to the exploration and creation of an individual dance theatre language that is informed by psycho-physical research, Asian shamanistic trance dance, Butoh, Voice and Visual design.
