Sixth Melaka Art And Performance Festival Concludes With Resounding Success
MELAKA, 25 NOVEMBER 2014 – The Melaka Art and Performance Festival (MAPFest), the largest and only site-specific art and performance festival on a UNESCO World Heritage site, ended recently after artists braved the monsoon rains to continue with their performances for three days in Melaka.
“We are grateful to all our event partners, our Royal Patron Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the State of Melaka for their tremendous support. The artists were amazing and the audience had a great time experiencing MAPFest,” said Andrew Ching, Founder and Producer of the Festival.
Artists from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, France, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Japan and New Zealand performed in the streets and St. Paul’s Hill, where the asphalt became the canvas for their art. The festival was free and accessible for all.
“As an artist, I know that the performers got as much out of MAPFest as the audience. I believe MAPFest is such a success because of the exceptional performances by the artists that grabbed the attention of the audience,” said Tony Yap, the Festival Creative Director.
MAPFest 2014 was officially launched by Melaka Governor Tun Datuk Seri Utama Mohd Khalil Yaakob and MAPFest Royal Patron Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, at the historical St. Paul’s Hill in Melaka on 21 November 2014. The Governor was represented by Datuk Hj Ghazale Muhamad, State Tourism, River, Beach and Island Development Committee Deputy Chairman.
MAPFest was produced by Art & Performance Festival Melaka Sdn Bhd and was supported by E-Plus Entertainment Sdn Bhd, Mercatus Plus, Badan Warisan Malaysia, the Australian High Commission, the Tony Yap Company, the Embassy of Japan, the Kedutaan Besar Republik Indonesia, the Embassy of Ireland, the Royal Thai Embassy, the High Commission of New Zealand, the Embassy of Italy, the Embassy of Colombia, the Embassy of France, Alliance Français de Kuala Lumpur and Institute Français.
