Tanjung Rhu, a world-renowned destination for its scenic beaches, captivated the heart of participants today through a memorable swim across its waters, and close to international borders that provide an exclusive experience of Malaysia and Thailand in a single location. “Open water swimming competition usually focuses on its swimming elements. The Tanjung Rhu SwimFest, on the other hand, introduced a different perspective as we immerse into the scenic view of Langkawi’s waters while swimming through the islands,” said Kevin.

Tanjung Rhu SwimFest, a debut programme under AkTION series organised by E-Plus Global Sdn Bhd and supported by Langkawi Development Authority, drew over 200 participants in its attempt to boost tourism for its islands, targeting specifically on sports enthusiasts.

“The succession of pilot project Tuba Trail Run in April this year to a series of eco-sport programmes under AkTION has a great potential in driving tourist to Langkawi. This initiative to branch out from the traditional tourism marketing has proven positive in elevating tourist receipts. The establishment of AkTION series will continue to entice domestic and international visitors, as well as creating a new and untapped market for its islands,” said Iskandar Shahril, Managing Director, E-Plus Entertainment Productions for Singapore and Thailand.

AkTION comprises of three programmes for the year of 2016/2017. This includes the Tanjung Rhu SwimFest, Mount (Mt.) Mat Chinchang Skybridge Climb and the Tuba Trail Run. “We are confident that more programmes will be incorporated under this umbrella to attract a diversity of audiences,” Iskandar added.

Suhaimi bin Baharun, Assistant Senior Manager, Tourism Division of LADA, said that sports are an ever growing industry with the increasing awareness towards building a healthy lifestyle. “The proliferation of sports enthusiasts in Malaysia and the region has led to the growth of the sporting market. We saw the opportunity and hope that in the future, Langkawi will be more than just a destination for our beautiful islands, but also a well-established destination for eco-sports.” The Tanjung Rhu SwimFest is also held in conjunction with Pesta Pantai Tanjung Rhu Langkawi.

“Tuba Trail Run last April was exciting and brought great memories. The forest we trailed through, and the local hospitality was pleasant. My return to Langkawi for the Tanjung Rhu SwimFest was another exclusive experience in its variant of islands. Langkawi is a destination with endless discovery, and I will return again for their upcoming eco-sport programmes,” said Mohd Hafiz, a participant from Singapore.

AkTION’s following programmes include the Mt. Mat Chinchang SkyBridge Climb that will be held on 18 February 2017, a 4.5-kilometer climb that finishes at the peak of the mountain after passing the cable car’s Middle Station, crossing across the famous SkyBridge, and continues to the Top Station. The Tuba Trail Run will take place on 8 April 2017, and it is a trail run in the less explored islands of Pulau Tuba and Pulau Dayang Bunting.
